When fitting laminate flooring, always ensure that you have the complete tools necessary for the process. Apart from the laminate flooring materials itself, you will need to have measuring implements such as measuring tape and pencil, as well plane and carpenter's square. Do not forget to prepare the necessary underlay and vapor barrier foil before embarking on the process. A hand saw is used for cutting laminates when needed, while the knocking block and spacer wedges are used in the fitting process itself, to ensure a straight and clean layout. You may also need a straight edge, pull iron, drill, and holesaw, though the floating process of installation is utilized when fitting all laminates so no adhesive nor nail is needed.

Just as in the process of installing hardwood flooring, you also need to acclimatize the boards first before fitting laminate flooring. Allow the boards to be stored indoors two days or more prior to fitting and make sure the whole floor surface is clean and leveled out. Take doors from its hinges so as not to impede the process and avoid any mistakes, making sure that the height of the door bottom to floor has been properly marked out. Making sure that the subfloor is leveled out is also important, as is the quality of the materials used. A consultation with a professional will help address this necessary consideration.
The Fitting Process
The first step of fitting laminate flooring is the placement of its underlay, making sure that you are fully sealing the surface. Before placing the first board, place spacers against the wall to allow a small space for expansion and place the first board with its tongue facing the wall. Continue laying the boards in a row and cut the last board, when necessary, with a handsaw. The pull iron is handy to properly fit the last board and the knocking block is utilized to secure the joints in placed without having to dent or damage the edges of the boards. Always be gentle when interlocking the boards together and don't hammer down the boards with unnecessary force. Though there are no hard and set rules on the direction of flooring layout, the boards are generally placed parallel to the longer wall.
Cleaning up
Remove the spacers before you add decorative touches to hide the gaps. You can now clean up the debris and dirt that accumulate after fitting laminate flooring. A quick swipe with a dry cleaning mop is also advisable. Water should be removed immediately and place felt pads on the feet of your furniture to ensure that you enjoy your laminate flooring lasts for a long time.
