Wooden chairs are furniture we use every day. Over time, a chair starts to wobble due to movement of its joints. When a chair wobbles, it's time to repair it!!! First, you'll need these tools and materials:
* Glue (white or yellow wood glue, Titebond brand is a good adhesive)
* Brush (one 1" China bristle brush is economical enough to throw out when you finish)
* Clamps ( you will need between 4 and 8 bar steel clamps with wooden handles and cast heads with a capacity of 30" and a throat depth of 3").
* Cloth (1 cotton cloth damp with water will remove the excess of glue dripping from the joint under pressure).
* Masking tape and felt tip marker
* A very sharp wood chisel
Felt Furniture Pads
To properly repair a wooden chair, you need to pay attention to each chair component.
- Disassemble all the loose joints with a rubber hammer DELICATELY without breaking any pieces.
- Number all the parts with masking tape, so you know how to put the chair back together.
- Use a very sharp wood chisel to remove the old glue on the joints. The wood needs to be very clean to get a good bond.
- Try a dry fitting, using all the clamps necessary to tighten the chair. Use protective pads on your clamps to protect the workpiece.
- If everything looks good, apply white or yellow glue to all the joints with a small brush and tighten the chair with the clamps.
- Wipe off the glue dripping from the joints with a damp cloth.
- Leave the chair for 24 hours under pressure.
- The next day, remove the clamps and touch up the finish if necessary.
